Single Phase AC Measurements Revisited

چکیده

DID YOU KNOW ? Charles Proteus Steinmetz (1855-1923) was born in Breslau, Germany, the son of a railway worker. His political activity forced him to flee Germany. He came to America and was soon employed by General Electric to head up their research facility. He was referred to as “the wizard of Schenectady”, “the forger of thunderbolts”, and “the latter-day Vulcan”. Harvard University said of him; “ he is the foremost expert in applied electricity of this country”. In 1893, he published his paper on complex numbers and the mathematical techniques for analyzing alternating current (AC) networks. In 1897, he published the first book on how to perform complicated AC calculations with simple algebra. Still today, AC circuit problems are solved using simple “phasors” algebra, thanks to Charles Proteus Stienmetz.

A Hybrid Switching Technique for Single-Phase AC-Module PV System to Reduce Power Losses and Minimize THD

This paper proposes a hybrid switching technique for a domestic PV system with AC-module architecture. In this PV system, independent control of PV modules, which are directly connected to DC terminals of a single-phase cascaded multilevel inverter, makes module-level MPPT possible to extract maximum available solar energy, especially in partial shading conditions. As one of the main contributi...

Phase-Control Alternatives for Single-Phase AC Motors Offer Smart, Low-Cost, Solutions

Single Phase AC motors continue to be the primary solution for air-movement, pumping and compressor applications. Their low cost and availability make them ideal for lowperformance systems. DC Brushless platforms attempt to address these applications but their higher cost and complexity continue to form impenetrable barriers of entry. They are viewed as overkill for most applications. Single-Ph...

A Direct Power Feeding System for AC Railway Networks Using Modular Multilevel Converter

Abstract Traditional railway power supply systems impose substantial power quality problems (PQ) on the utility network, such as unbalance, harmonics and a large amount of reactive power. This paper proposes a topology based on three-phase to single-phase modular multilevel converters (MMC) to obviate these problems. The MMC based traction substations (TSS) are connected directly to the utili...

Desing And Implementation of Adaptive Active Filters for Exact Estimation And Elimination of AC Network Distortions

In recent years, active filters have been considered and developed for elimation of harmonics in power networks. Comparing with passive, they are smaller and have better compensating characteristics and resistance to line distortions. In this paper, a novel idea based on adaptive filter theory in presented to develop an active filter to eliminate the distortions of an arbitrary signal. Using th...
